Oct 08 -- British Defence Staff Endorsement. We were delighted to hear that the Defence Staff at the British Embassy in Washington D.C. are recommending A Slice of Apple Pie ... to new Ministry of Defence personnel (military & civilian) posted to the USA. There are approx 700 MoD personnel stationed in the USA at any one time.
Sat 4 Oct -- Bournemouth Literary Festival. As part of the 'world culture' theme of this year's Bournemouth Literary Festival, Julie Musk gave a 1-hour talk at The Print Room, Richmond Hill, Bournemouth. She discussed her experiences living in the USA as captured in her recent book A Slice of Apple Pie ... . Julie was followed by Brian Schofield, former editor of the Sunday Times Travel Magazine, who spoke about his Wild West travelogue and adventure story Selling Your Father's Bones, and offered travel writing tips.
Sat & Sun, 13/14 Sep -- Bournemouth Natural Science Society Open Day. An opportunity to meet naturalist, taxidermist and wildlife consultant Jonathan McGowan (on our stand at the Dorset County Show). Jonathan will be exhibiting his conclusive evidence that big cats exist in our countryside. These are free Open Days at Bournemouth's 'Wonderland of animals, birds, fossils and archaeological specimens'. A chance to see all their collections, with experts on hand. Sat 6 Sep -- Dorset County Show. Despite the rather interesting conditions, an estimated 200 people stopped to chat with author Merrily Harpur at the launch of Roaring Dorset! Encounters with Big Cats, at the Dorset County Show. An amazing 41 previously unreported local big cat sightings were provided - the 223 in the book obviously helped show people they were not alone in what they had seen. Many thanks to Jonathan McGowan for helping us out with his extensive knowledge and experience of big cat field work.
